Digital Planning Process Proposal

East Suffolk District Council is one of 10 Councils which have been chosen to test a new digital planning process. On 1st June 2021, the Government announced a £1.1Million fund for the scheme. The proposals are contained in a Government white paper called "planning for the future" (published Aug 2020). Current laws date back to the Town & Country planning Act 1947, and overarching Local plans take up to 7yrs to put together. It is sometimes difficult to engage with the complicated planning process. The Government wants things to be based around online digital maps so as to move away from notices on lamp posts. On Gov.uk, East Suffolk Cllr David Ritchie is quoted as saying "We hope that this will not only increase community participation, but will also speed up the planning process."
